Construction of 26 Mini Micro Hydropower Projects

AIDP, as the lead partner in collaboration with Hydrolink Engineering and Equipment Company Private Limited, Haashar Association, and Zomo Ashro Hydropower Engineering Company, is implementing the construction of 26 MMHPPs in District Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The project includes components such as social mobilization, feasibility studies of MMHPPs, and the actual construction of these projects.

The project has the following main components

  • Social Mobilization: Under the project, community dialogues have been held with different communities of the rural areas of District Mansehra where there was potential and need of electricity. Total19 Community Organization (CO) through election among the community members were formed. Following is a brief detail of the community organizations.
  • Feasibility Studies of Mini Micro Hydropower Projects (MMHPPs): Site identification, surveys, data analysis, environmental impact assessments, designing of civil and electromechanical equipment, and development of detailed feasibility reports are the main components of feasibility studies. Feasibility Studies of 17 number MMHPPs were completed and after approval of the feasibility studies the construction works were started.
  • Construction of Mini Micro Hydropower Projects (MMHPPs):  After approval of detailed feasibility studies by the Management Consultant and Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) the projects are then physically implemented with the full participation of the local communities through the democratically elected VDCs. Feasibility studies of 17 out of 17 MMHPPs were approved and the construction works were completed. The MMHPPs were tested commissioned and handed over for operations to the concerned COs. The detail of the completed MMHPPs is given as under:- 
  • Forestation/Plantation for Improvement of Environment: As per guidance and directions of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa plantations were carried out in the surrounding of MMHPPs and villages where the MMHPPs have been being constructed.
